The Australian Legal System

Director's Duties & Corporate Governance

Duration:

30 minutes

Price:

$135 plus GST

Content:

This video examines the Australian legal system, how both the state and Federal parliaments make laws and how courts interpret those laws. There is a discussion of indigenous law resulting from Mabo and Wik cases.

The video is divided into three main parts;

The Parliaments: The viewer goes inside state parliament house and follows a law being made and then transmitted to the governor for Royal Assent. The federal process for making a law will also be covered.

The courts: The court system in both the state and Federal jurisdictions is examined with detailed look at the court hierarchy and a discussion of common law.

Aboriginal & Torres Straight Islander Law: The change in the law of native title as a result of the High Court's decisions of Mabo and Wik is highlighted.

The video is filmed inside parliament, the courts, the governor's office and the site of the first British settlement in Australia. A large number of graphics and file footage is used to explain and highlight our system of making and interpreting the law.
